Snow Removal in Vista Ridge

Please be aware of the following information regarding snow removal in Vista Ridge.

Residents should know that their streets are not plowed by the HOA. Streets in Vista Ridge are plowed by the Town of Erie Public Works Department and the majority of the time only primary routes will be plowed by them. Residents should contact the Town of Erie Public Works Department at (303) 926-2870 with any questions regarding snow removal of streets in Vista Ridge.  VRHOA currently only provides snow removal (after 2 inches of accumulation) for the Community Center and one small area\park in John Laing Homes. In 2007 VRHOA will maintain two additional areas (park\tot lot) on Hickory Drive, all other parks are maintained by the builders and their contact information is on the trash containers at those parks.  Sidewalks along Vista Parkway, Mt. View, Skyline and Sunset are maintained by the Metro District, you can contact the Vista Ridge Parks & Open Space Manager at 720 384 5909 with any questions regarding sidewalk snow removal or HOA snow removal.

The Department of Public Works goal is to provide snow removal services to maximize safety and minimize winter travel hazards.

Snow removal procedures per the Department of Public Works are as follows:

• Primary Routes: Major arterials and school access are the critical routes providing into and out of Erie. Snow removal efforts will be concentrated on the primary routes throughout the snowstorm.
• Secondary Routes: Minor arterials and collector streets connecting the neighborhoods to the primary routes. These routes are plowed only after all primary routes have been done.
• Tertiary Routes: Residential or local streets are not plowed or treated except after very severe winter storms. When snow storms leave an accumulation of 12 inches or more and the snow is expected to remain for several days, snowplows move into effected residential areas after completed service on primary and secondary roads. Plows perform one center pass.
• Ice Control Material: The town applies sand and/or a standard mixture of salt and sand to roadways to improve traction and accelerate ice melt.  Snowplow operators are instructed to apply varying amounts of sand or mix depending on road and weather conditions.  Typically sand or mix is applied at intersections curves and hills.
• Sidewalks: By town ordinance, property owners are responsible for clearing their sidewalks of snow within 24 hours of accumulation following each storm. A citation or fine may be issued if the property owner fails to comply.   Snow should not be shoveled into the streets.
• Emergency Access of Residential streets: A resident who has a police, fire or medical emergency during a severe snowstorm should call 911.  In the event it is necessary for the Erie Police, the Mountain View Fire Department and EMT to respond the affected residential streets will be plowed to accommodate emergency vehicles.
• The DPW snow removal fleet consists of 4 plow trucks and 2 pieces of heavy equipment
• Ice Slice is effective at 30 degrees and above
